Project 13 - Final Utopia/Dystopia

Image
For the first film, we used balck and white filters, while the other one we kept it natural. We also shot from different angles to capture different perspectives of each mood. We took videos and also included transitions in the video to make it flow nicely.

Project 13 - Utopia/Distopia Pre-work

Pre-work: What is Utopia? Utopia is an idealistic situation, where everything follows a plan, almost like a perfect society. What is Dystopia? Dystopia is a place that is a place or imagined state that is very bad and typically one that is undesirable or frightening. Title of Film or Video: Ways it showed a UTOPIA Ways it showed DYSTOPIA Here's the Plan There was a perfect schedule that the fox's created and said they would follow. At the beginning, everything was very happy because the design was very colorful. However, the plan does not go as plan, which portrays a dystopian mood. When the plan failed, the color of the setting was very dark and gloomy.  Hunger Games Utopia is portrayed when Katniss and Pita arrive in the city that presents a utopia feeling. The city is very clean and has many tall buildings that are more advanced in technology. People living in the utopia part of society all expressed happiness through there actions and facial expressions. ...

Project 12 - Stop Motion

Image
Credits: Vivian Wang and Cate Stone Concept Of Animation: We decided to film a lunch items making and packing themselves into a lunch box. How we did this? We used an overhead shot to capture the ingredients moving together and making itself. We used an app that allows us to shoot multiple photos together, connecting them. We used a tripod to improve the stability of the camera, so the motion of the objects would not be drastically different from each other. The sound effects were created by Cate and we also found one online to make the stop motion film seem more realistic and less boring. We also used the spicy "cheetos" from the lunch part of our film to spell out the title of our film.

Inspiring Stop Animation

Image
I really like this Time Lapse Video because I like how the creator of this film shot from different angles and made me feel like the say was actually moving and changing. The editing was on point and I really like time lapse videos, so I think I will try something with time lapse in my film. I really liked how they formed the sand and snow man during different seasons. The sand/snow man was finding a bottle of what he collected after each season and wearing it for the season that the sand/snow thing was previously in. They used stop edits and stop motion to create this affect as the objects were moving.  I loved this video because they used desserts as workers that were building a city and transportation out of sugar blocks. This video is called sweet dreams and I think the video really portrayed that through it's animations. They used techniques like stop motion and stop edit to show different scenes. This video replicates sweet dreams because they are sweet baker...

Project 11 - Magazine Mockup

Project 11 Pre work - Inspiring Magazine Designs

Image
Magazine Covers Magazine Spreads Magazine Advertisements I looked up many travel magazine covers and their spreads because I know that I want to work on a magazine involved with traveling because I have many good pictures that I took on my trip to Europe. I was really inspired by the layouts of the pages inside travel magazines; the geometric spreads of the travel magazines above. I also really liked the covers and the text in it because all of it worked really well together. The fonts on the cover pages for the travel magazines were of my aesthetics.

Project 10 - Two Portraits

Image
I took this photo at the Louvre in Paris, France. I took this photo from the side angle of the woman running to catch the bubbles. To professionalize the photo, I edited the photo in light room using the auto filter. This made the photo less saturated and have a higher exposure.  I took this photo when I was at the Wax Museum in London. I used light room to adjust  the lighting of the photo to make it look more professional. I also adjusted the tilt of the  photo to make the angle of the photo not sideways. This is my mandarin teacher that I took a photo of to advertise the staff in Lincoln. I took her picture under a semi-dark area, so I used light room and adjusted the lighting of the photo. Then I exported and imported it to photoshop and pasted text to promote Lincoln. I also used a quote from her and one that I believe in.  This commercial cover is for promoting vitamin water. I decided to choose a side view of Cate drinking th...

Pre-work for Project 10 - Commercial Portraits

Image
Commercial Portraits are used for certain businesses to promote a product, cause, or brand. Photographers that shoot commercial portraits usually have a set idea in their mind for attracting an audience to focus on the business. Lancome Company Adidas Company These companies are obviously trying to either sell their product or company. Lancome is trying to advertise their new skin product called Dream Tone and Adidas is just trying to advertise their company.

Fine Art Portraits

A fine portrait is not just to capture moments of reality, but following a vision to create a photograph that conveys a message, belief, or emotion.    This photo reminds me of searching for a path to           In this photo, the girl on the ladder is some sort of future because he is on a ladder looking    reaching for something that seems to be light into the distance for something. This photo is intentional  and sun after a dark stormy day. Fine Art vs. Commercial Art

Image
Commercial Photography Fine Art Photo The photo of Beyonce in commercial photography is obviously manipulated to be for advertisement purposes. She is on the cover of Vogue magazine and advertising for fashion. This is different from the fine art photo because the commercial one has a totally different purpose. The fine art photo portrays a real and authentic side of Beyonce and her family, whereas the commercial one is about fashion. The position of Beyonce in commercial photography also accentuates her body and fashion, while the fine art photo feels like a natural photo.

Project 9 - Surrealism and Photo montage Final

Image
I created the first image using a close up of the Chihuly glass garden in Seattle and then I used a picture of me in Hawaii to create this surreal photo. I didn't really have a vision when I was creating this photo, but I played around with size and thought that this was a cool idea.  This photo I created involved a picture of my sister on Mt. Haleakala in Maui and the photos of Cate and Kate were used taken using a green screen. I wanted to make the picture look surreal by manipulating the position I took the photo of Cate and Kate. I also put a glass sculpture in the photo to represent the "sun". I also didn't really have a clear purpose for this photo, I just played around with different concepts and decided that this one was really good.

Project 9 - Surrealism and Photomontage prework

Vladimir Kush Salvador Dali What is Surrealism? Surrealism was a movement that took place in art during the 20th century. Some famous painters included Salvador Dali and Vladimir Kush. Surrealism is an abstract image that composed of irrational juxtapositions of images.  Farzana Ria This is an example of dreamlike surrealism because it has realistic pieces that are placed with the unrealistic views of how the world really looks. For example the realistic object are the person, desert, and trees. However when it is combined with the sky that shows our solar system, it makes it look surreal. The picture does not look real anymore because we wouldn't see this in real life. Justin Peters This is another example of surrealism because it involves realistic objects that we would see, however as the objects such as the moon and cliff together and he moon turning into sand, it looks surreal. A moon doesn't shatter into sand and...

Alternate Processes

Image
What Are Cyanotypes? Cyanotypes are a photographic process that produces a blue-print like the one shown above. The process involves two chemicals: ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide. This solution is used a sensitizer solution that is applied to a receptive surface such as paper or cloth and dried in the dark. Prints are made from negatives and positive images are produced by exposing them to UV light.  What Are Daguerreotypes? A photographic process that involves a sheet of silver-plated copper and fumes that make the surface of the surface to be light sensitive. Expose it in a camera and fuming it with mercury vapor to remove its sensitivity to the light by liquid chemical treatment. Then rinse it and dry it and seal with protective seal such as glass.  What is Gum Bichromate? Photographic printing process that is based on light sensitivity of dichromates. It is a multi-layered process that produces a wash of different shades...

Project 8- Alternate process prework Lumen Prints and Cyanotype prework

Image
Lumen Prints Paul Sisson http://www.paulsissonphoto.com/lumen-prints/ Joshua White https://www.joshuawhitephotography.com/lumen-prints/ Lumen Prints were an early form of photographic processes that involved UV light. First you need to arrange physical subjects on your paper until you get the desired arrangement. Then, you need to cover your subject with a piece of glass, while making sure that your subjects are flat on the pieces of paper. After placing your glass on, place it outside and make sure that it is directly pointing towards the sun. It is best to complete this process when there is UV light (sunlight) as it is what creates the image. Make sure to monitor your photo and tape your photo to the ground as it absorbs the sunlight. Once the print has been developed by the sun make sure to take it out and bleach it then wash. Cyanotypes Trond Sandmo http://trondsandmo.com/?p=1537 Cyanotypes is used to produced cyanotype blue prints. The...

Community Project

Image
For this project Emma Brauser and I shot photos at Director Park in Portland Oregon. We shot different angles and different parts of Director Park to combine the photos into a collage that looks like director park. We also took about two hundred and something photos to create this collage. First we uploaded the pictures we took onto our computers and then we organized the photos into a google document. After doing so we then printed these images out and used scissors to cut them out. Then we organized the photos to create a collage of what director park looks like. We also recut some images we took to fit it in the collage.

Project #7 - Multiple Image Techniques

Image
This is a multiple exposure image that was edited in photoshop. These two pictures were taken in downtown Portland and later screened on top of each other. The opacity percentage is smaller for the photo on top. This is also a multiple exposure photo, taken near Lincoln High School. The two photos were both of trees and combined using the screening tool in photoshop. This photo is a panorama and was taken as a panorama using an iPhone. It was shot at an angle from the bottom to the top.  This is also another panorama, which was created by using the panorama mode on my phone. I took by moving my camera from bottom to the top and over my head. This photo was taken in Seattle, Washington at the Chihuly Glass Garden. I took many different photos and merged them at different exposures to get the desired photo.  This photo was taken at Washington Park in Portland Oregon. These photos had different exposures and I merged them in photoshop to ge the ...

Reflections of 1st Semester

Image
I learned about different types of photography such as underwater, micro, landscape, portrait, etc. I feel like this semester has gone really well because I learned a lot more techniques on how to create the image I am really looking for. I really enjoy taking photos with a shallow and deep depth of field. My favorite project would have to be project 5 because I was able to learn all the parts of the camera and get a better understanding on how to use them. I especially felt connected to Cody Cobb's work, who is a landscape photographer that captures the stillness of nature. I really enjoy taking those kinds of photos and his photos were just amazing. For next semester I'm excited to work more with photoshop and create better quality images. I'm also very excited to improve on my picture taking skills as well as photo editing. This was a great semester!
